Organizations for Women Golfers
How to Find a Tournament to Participate In

Women Golfers Who Want to Play

Golf is a game, but it was designed to be enjoyed while competing. No matter what your playing level, it is rewarding for your game and character to compete at some level. Finding tournaments where you can test your skills against other women can be a challenge though. By joining a club, joining an organization for women golfers or by finding USGA or State Golf Association events in your area you can quench your thirst for woman-to-woman combat on the links.

Most golf or country clubs will have a ladies organization that competes on a weekly basis. Sometimes you can only participate if you are a member of the club, but more and more public and semi-private golf courses are discovering that women golfers can bring added revenue to their facilities by organizing ladies associations that are open to everyone. There are also organizations such as the Executive Women’s Golf Association, which is a national organization designed for women in the workplace that love to play golf. They have local chapters and it is a great way to compete as well as network with fellow executive women. Events in the aforementioned organization are usually open to all levels of ability and are flighted according to handicaps. This allows golfers of all different abilities to compete with each other, and is a great way to get introduced to competitive golf.

For the serious competitor out there, another route to go is through the USGA or golf association in your country. Each state also has their own golf association that runs events very similar to the USGA, but only on the local level. Many of these events are played in the match play format, which is when players are matched up in brackets and play against one opponent at a time keeping score by determining which golfer has won the most holes. These associations will also conduct a few handicapped or flighted competitions as well, where ladies of all abilities can compete and enjoy themselves, but are know more for events targeted towards lower-handicap, competitive-minded women golfers such as, the U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur Championship.

If you have still not found a place to compete after exhausting all these avenues, the best thing to do is to organize an association or group of your own. Get word of mouth out by placing flyers at local golf courses, at work, and the gym. Email all your golfing friends and tell them to email all their friends and start a blog about what you are doing. Once you have formed a group big enough to call an organization, form committees and step back to watch the group run itself.

Competing with other women golfers will help you meet new people, develop your golf game, and increase your love for the game. The golf industry is slowly but surely recognizing the value of women golfers and organizations are forming at clubs all over the place. We've listed below the U.S. state golf associations - specifically the women's organizations when available. You might also want to check out the U.S. Women's Golf Amateur (USGA championship roster), and if all else fails take matters into your own hands and start a group on your own.
