Breast Cancer Research

As we get older unfortunately we start to face some of the more scary illnesses both in ourselves, our friends and family. One of the concerns that women face as they get older is the risk of breast cancer. In 2006 it is estimated that 40,970 women in the US died of breast cancer (American Cancer Society). It is not hard to find someone within our families, friends or social circle that has been affected by this terrible disease.

With the huge efforts made by the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) and numerous Corporate Sponsors, research into the causes and cures are finally making an impact on the numbers of women affected by this disease. Over the last two years in the US the numbers of women dying of breast cancer have fallen.

However, the battle is not won and until it again becomes a rarity to hear of another woman affected by this disease the BCRF desperately needs help in raising funds for more research.

The good news is that with a combination of 6.57 million women golfers (US), golf equipment manufacturers have come on board and are supporting the BCRF with dedicated product lines and donating proceeds from their sales.

Manufacturers such as Wilson have brought out the Hope line of golf balls. Wilson makes a donation to the BCRF from each set of golf balls sold.

Bite has brought out their Deuce line of shoes for women golfers, donating funds again to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Winning Edge have also brought out a variety of headcovers including an oversized putter headcover, all with funding going to the BCRF.

Whether you’re a female or male golfer there are ways in which the everyday equipment you use could actually be doing more good than just helping with your game. Some of these items would make fantastic presents for any woman you know who enjoys her golf.

The women golf pro’s are also getting involved in raising money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Christie Kerr is behind Birdies for Breast Cancer which has raised over US$25,000 so far for research into causes and cures for breast cancer. Christie has a wonderful range of apparel and accessories on her site with each purchase addng more funds for research. Christie also donates US$50 for every birdie she makes; so far she has donated the proceeds for 185 birdies.

If you would like more information about Companies who are involved in helping the BCRF to raise funds, in addition to women golfers' sponsors, you can go to the BCRF site and take a look at who is involved and in what way you can participate in doing more so fewer women die of this disease.
